When I said this everyone thought I didn't know what I was talking about smh?!
This is why I agreed with TheD1CK's proposal to make the bonus only 2% per level to the assault, and take the other 5% straight to the weapon. Originally, before they made the change, I said that replacing the original bonus with a RoF bonus would've been nice. 2 bonuses on the gal/cal went from extreme right to extreme left instantly. The gal and cal assaults should've just lost their original bonuses for the new ones.
Also, changing the proficiency bonuses of the weapons would've helped in the case of the AR. Instead of 3% per level against shields, due to the CQC attributes of the suit/weapon combo, it could've been changed to 2% shield/1% armor to accommodate the need to put a dent in heavies at CQC.
Currently the 15% seems a tad strong. I do, however, feel that in today's current meta it's warranted. Sentinel/hmg combo has been nerfed to the point where they are barely used. Leaving more assaults running all over the place, and heavies only being used primarily in range of the gal assault. I kill more heavies and logies than any other suit on the field as a CQC fighter. The RoF is warranted in close because I have to kill two guys, whole one reps the other very often!
Also, the short range of the weapon variants is a hard counter for any argument against RoF bonus.
My current suggestion to keep the weapon viable for all suits, and get the fotm players away from it:
Change the AR itself! Give it a flat RoF buff of 5%, make the reload of the weapon a touch faster since the current reload is completely outdated, and make the weapon balanced shield/armor dmg 1% per level proficiency.
These are changes that probably should've been made when the CR and RR were introduced instead of nerfing up and down in raw dmg?!
We declare that the AR and the Gallente suits are built for CQC, but refuse to give them CQC capability. That's why every other suit beats them at CQC. It's really that simple. CR reloads faster, and is a armor shredder. It's on a fast shield based suit. No wonder it out performs pretty much every other suit in close.
The same goes for sentinels. Tanked with an hmg. Gal assault dies. Really simple.
We basically asked the suit to perform nerfed, and then pretended to be surprised when we saw everyone else's weapons s on the suit?!
The weapon needs an overhual, not a bandaid fix.
RoF is too high, but that doesn't mean the RoF should not have been increased on the weapon itself a long time ago.
